  • I had a really nice time yesterday.  A majority of my morning was spent finishing up an essay for Biology that was due at noon, I had stayed up all night the night before trying to perfect it.

After I was finished with classes for the day I participated in another research study that I got $10 out of.  I also got my first $3 paycheck for participating in online surveys, and since I've been doing those on a near-daily basis I should be getting a pretty steady stream of those.  And I may be going on and on about research studies and online surveys, but lemme tell ya, all that small cash adds up.  In this past week alone I've made $21 for about 2 hours of my time.  I'm saving all that money up for... something, I dont know yet but I'll know when I see it.  It's good to have money.

There wasnt really much to do after that.  MFlicks was hosting a free theatre screening of The Shining, and I was excited to watch that all week.  I was pretty tired from staying up the night before, so it was difficult for me to stay awake, but I'm definately glad that I went because I met a very pretty girl while I was there.  The movie was awesome as usual, since The Shining is a classic of the horror genre and quite possibly my favorite movie of all time.

I kinda wish I did more since it was Halloween night and that only comes around once a year, but I was exhausted and went to bed immediately afterwards.  I missed out on all the candy and parties and such.  Maybe I'll make up for it tonight, we shall see.

  • The CoD5: World at War multiplayer beta is out now on both PC and Xbox 360.  Good game, I've been having alot of fun with it.

Pros:  It's almost exactly like Call of Duty 4
Cons:  It's almost exactly like Call of Duty 4

The problem is that the multiplayer component is basically the same game, but in a World War II setting with new maps, perks, weapons, and vehicles.  The good news is that if you enjoyed CoD4, you'll enjoy CoD5.

Oh my god, talk about the GREATEST FREAKING JOB EVER.  Getting paid to drink and provide your opinion on beer, I wish I was 21.

  • If you want to read by far the single WORST featured post ever posted on Xanga, check it out here  http://weblog.datingish.com/datingish/679364068/dear-single-mensincererly-a-wounded-good-girl.html

She mentions "the dangers of videogame addiction".

    Videogame addiction.  WHAT.

I'm not a big fan of Xanga drama, but what the fuck are the Xanga staff thinking featuring this?  It's not just the videogame addiction comment, it's insanely religious for a Datingish blog.  They should really read this stuff over before featuring it, I'm at the crossroads of "laughing because it's so stupid" and "offended because it's so stupid".

That out of the way, I went to see Saw V last night.  I couldnt believe it, it was actually a GOOD MOVIE!  I enjoyed the first two Saw movies, but Saw 3 and Saw 4 sucked so my expectations werent high for Saw 5.  But I never expected it to be as good as it was.

After that I just barely missed the bus back to central campus =O  So I ended up waiting for an hour before the bus came around again, that was REALLY annoying.

I havent mentioned this to many people because it makes me look childish.  But I recently got back into the Pokemon Trading Card Game.  I used to be a huge fan of Pokemon.  I was in love with the videogames and collected the trading cards as well.  I didnt know how to actually play the game at the time, but after my friend taught me I was instantly hooked.  From then on out, I didnt care about the videogames nearly as much as the card game, and I became really damn good at it.  But then I grew out of Pokemon entirely sometime in the 7th grade so I didnt play anymore because I wanted to be associated with the cool kids.  Now, ever since I came back to Michigan this year, I've got a group of friends that I play with over the weekends and we're always having alot of fun.  There was a tournament last weekend that I did pretty poorly in, but there was surprisingly alot of people there for such an old card game.  There's a prerelease event today that we're going to, they're releasing a new set of cards here in a couple of weeks but today we get the chance to get some of those cards early.  Then they're going to have another small tournament where we can only use cards from this new set, and that's going to be pretty exciting.

I had a Biology exam and a Black World History exam this week.  I didnt feel too good on either of them.

I had a pot brownie last night and went and played DDR.  It was incredibly fun, got a good workout.

  • The Max Payne movie is out.  And it's really sad that I havent seen it yet because I'm a hardcore fan of the videogame series.  It's been getting really bad reviews, kinda what I expected since videogame to movie adaptations tend to be lackluster.  I would be filled with joy if they made the Max Payne 3 videogame a reality.

Bully: Scholarship Edition comes out for the PC on the 21st.  I played it on the PS2, really good game but also really short.  This "scholarship edition" makes the game longer and gives it better graphics, so I'll be sure to pick it up.  GTAIV comes out for the PC sometime in November 11th, and a Kingdom Hearts game for the PS2 comes out on December 2nd.  That's my gaming forecast for the rest of the year.

Saw V comes out this Friday.  I loved the first two Saw films, if you havent seen them I highly recommend them.  Saw III and IV sucked ass.  I dont expect much from Saw V, but I feel compelled to see it anyways.  They're also making a Saw VI.  Alot of people say "lol they keep making sequels why dont they just stop?"  What they dont know is that as soon as they saw the success of Saw I and II, they signed up in advance for 4 more movies, so they've had this planned out and Saw VI will supposedly be the last one.  Kind of an odd number to stop at, dont you think?  I think they might as well make another one, 7 is a nice even number.  Brash Entertainment's making a Saw videogame, which I already know is going to suck because every other game that that company has made has sucked ass.  Plus, how do you make a Saw videogame?  It's not videogame material.

Speaking of horror movies that have had way too many sequels, they're making a Butterfly Effect 3, Final Destination 4, and The Ring 3.

Started watching Weeds at the beginning of fall break.  Damn good show so far, there was one episode in particular that stuck out like a sore thumb, but everything else has been spectacular and I'm already on the second season.  I should really be studying for my Biology exam, I've got that on Thursday, and then my Black World History open-book midterm is on Friday which I dont know how to study for.

This weblog entry has been brought to you by the words "videogames", "movies", and "sequels".

  • Yesterday and today were pretty damn good.  On Tuesday, I had gotten a full night's sleep the night before and got up at 6:30am feeling fully awake and bummed around on the computer a bit before going to court.  My friends and family told me to wear nice, clean clothes when I went to court, so I put on a brand new "fuck da police" t-shirt (jk).  I couldnt help but smirk the entire time I was there, it's my natural reaction for getting a "minor in possession" charge for having an empty Oberon keg set up on display because I thought the artwork looked cool.

After that I headed over to my friend's apartment and spent a couple of hours getting some reading done.  I've got an open-book exam in my Black World History class at the end of the week and I want to get a good idea of where everything is in his books.  I've already read the rest of his books, but this one in particuarly is SO BORING.

After Spanish class, I went and gave some blood as a control subject for a research study and got $20, which was pretty sweet.  I went back to the dorm and took a long nap.  Later on that night I went back to my friend's apartment and we ordered aton of cookies and brownies from Insomnia Cookies.  I had 4 cookie dough brownies and 4 M+M cookies, my friend had a similar order, we ate the whole damn thing and washed it down with lots of milk.  I felt SO much better, it tasted so good, it was epic.

Today, not too much happened.  I slept in until 1:40pm (although I went to bed around 3am, I was still pretty tired when I woke up).  I emailed a letter to my friends, they're going to put it in an envelope and deliver it to my parents.  It's their 25th anniversary, horray for them!!  And horray for my friends for being nice enough to do that huge favor for me.  Right now, I'm just sitting here in Biology, I should be paying attention but I'm not... once I'm out of here I'm going to call my parents and wish them a happy anniversary.  After that I've got another research study where I make $10 for showing up and make even more throughout the course of the survey.  Sure, I'll take your money, I dont mind =D  Then after that I've got to write my Spanish journals and sometime tonight I'm going to watch the latest episode of House.

Edit:  Got $37 from that research study.  My parents also got my letter and loved it, muchos gracias to my good friend Seth for doing such a big favor for me on such short notice.

  • There's a drinking challenge where you try to drink 24 beers in 24 hours.  Apparently, it's harder than it looks.  I dont believe that for a second, however.  I want to do it one of these days.

I've hardly had anything to drink since I got here, which makes my minor-in-possession charge even more bullshit.  My friends have been advising me to get legal counseling and to battle it out in court.  I initially wanted to, but it just seems like a waste of everyone's time.  They've got my empty keg as evidence that technically still has alcoholic liquid in it, even if it's the slightest amount ever and is impossible for me to get out even if I wanted to.  I've got to pay $250 for court costs and another $100 for alcohol class.  I want to fight this but I just dont have the time, I doubt I have sufficient evidence, and in the long run it wouldnt have been worth it considering all the trouble I went through.  I wish I didnt get that stupid-ass ticket in the first place, fucking pig cops.  I hope that Officer/Detective Ryan Cavanaugh dies of ass-cancer.

    Anyways, time for some photos:

I dont know who's birthday it was, but I thought it was pretty cool to chalk out this happy birthday wish for a friend on their way to classes.  The cow was a very nice touch as well, cute.

The Adult Swim people set up somewhat of a mini-carnival in the Diag today.  Inside this gigantic inflatable of meatwad they had a Family Guy pinball machine.  They were giving out free t-shirts and stuff too.  Guess what else they had?

    DETHKLOK!!

I'm headed out to get some steak quesedillas from BtB.

  • So there's this game I've been playing, it's called Quake Live.  It's a free online version of 1999's Quake III Arena, you play it in your webbrowser, and any computer made in the past decade will be able to run it.  But you (the public) cant play it yet, because it's still in the beta testing phase.  For those of you who arent "in the know", Quake 3 Arena is a game played in professional electronic sport tournaments extensively since it's release.  With Quake Live, they've updated the game to cater to the modern gamer and are giving it out for free.  And it will be the standard for online shooters for years to come, there will be tournaments coming out the ass, this IS the next big thing.

In physics lab the other day, the chick who had been ignoring me grouped with me.  Things were going great, we were plugging along, and then about an hour into the lab she accidentally shuts off the surge protector to the computer, erasing all of our work.  aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUGH.  You cant tell the difference between a surge protector and a vacuum?  The lack of knowledge about electronics baffles me, if you dont know what a surge protector is then I'll fill you in.

    AC SURGE STRIP

THAT.  THAT IS A SURGE PROTECTOR.  DO NOT TURN OFF.  See that red switch?  NO TOUCHY.  The thingy that plugs into the wall and provides more electrical outlets.  How do people survive without knowing this?  I had gone to ask the teacher a question and when I came back to see all our data lost, I was speechless.

I've been lazy lately, been sleeping through alot of my classes.  I get the work done, but I'm just not going to physics anymore.  I'm withdrawing because it's just not worth taking the chance that I might or might not pass.  If I do pass, it'd be with a C or a C-.  If I failed, which is the more likely option, then all the extra hours that I spent neglecting other classes would have helped me achieve nothing.  With physics out of the way, I can get more sleep and spend more time focusing on Biology and Spanish, both of which I can do very well in if I have the time to study for them.  I'm sick of waking up at 7am every day and the first thing that I do is Physics.  That was the first class of every day of the week, and every day I left clueless.  In this week alone, the people in physics have to turn in 3 online homework assignments with 10 problems each.  10 HARD problems.  You think that's enough?

I'm thinking of signing up for a mini-course to make up for the credits that I'm losing from dropping physics.  I did a mini-course about Dinosaurs the second half of my first semester of freshman year, did pretty damn good on it, got one of the highest grades in the class.  Not a small class either, big full lecture-hall type class.  Anyone take any good easy mini-courses that they can recommend?

Got a Spanish exam tomorrow, that's what I be studying for right now.

  • Average Bio exam score:  74
    My Bio exam score: 74.5
